Power Point Presentation
Presented at the November 23, 2003 meeting
The Cabin Owners Association was formed in the
1950's, primarily as a social club. Through the years the
group evolved into the co-operative that purchased the
lakefront lots from the Western Irrigation District. From
there, the Cabin Owners Association became the Village
Association for first the Hamlet and then the Summer Village
of Chestermere Lake. That group grew and evolved into our
present town council.
In 1990 there was a renewed need for representation for the
lakefront owners as water levels in the lake were dropping and
fees levied by the WID were increasing dramatically. The
Lakefront Owners Association was formed and went to work,
first trying to negotiate an agreement with the WID,
representing the membership in the courts, and raising funds
to cover legal fees. Eventually the water level and cost
issues were resolved, and today we have a much more positive
relationship with the WID.
In June of 2003, Jim Webber of the WID attended the Annual
General Meeting of the Lakefront Owners Association, and gave
a very interesting and informative presentation. Some of the
items that Jim discussed were: shoreline straightening,
individual lot owner purchase of the WID right of way, our
never-ending weed problems and some possible solutions.
Looking ahead, the Association has a pretty full plate, and a
very enthused and hard working group on the executive
committee. Plans for the near future include: a barbeque to
celebrate the resolution of the lake levels (long overdue!),
open houses to inform residents of some of the proposals that
the WID are suggesting, and the gathering of names, email
addresses and phone numbers so that we can keep the membership
informed when things happen quickly (remember the drought of
2002!)
The Western Irrigation District (WID) is seeking your feedback
and will be providing updates on the future of our shorelines,
dock standards, improved weed removal and treatment, and the
de-silting of lot fronts and deepening the water level. Watch
for notices to be posted here.
The WID has several maps depicting the
proposed new shoreline of Chestermere Lake which can be viewed
at the town office.
